The newspaper was interesting the past 2 days....

In yesterday's local newspaper: One dhaba (restaurant) owner was fined for serving the meat of monitor lizards......yum

In today's local newspaper: 200 ill over the last 48 hours with symptoms caused by contaminated water from deadly borewells.

Illegal gun factory near city busted.

Another dhaba raided: found serving partridge meat. Partridge biryani 75 rupees (less than 2$), partridge fry 50 rupees (a little more than 1$). 4 of the men from the dhaba were arrested; the owner is still at large. (I wish I could have gone to this place to eat before they were caught!)

More on the dhaba that serves monitor lizard meat. Other delicious treats? Spotted deer, porcupine, wild boar, pangolin, civet cats, musk deer, sambar, great Indian gaur, otter, flying fox, rat snakes, water snakes, flap shell turtle, pond terrapin, all major water birds, yellow-throated green pigeon, peafowl, partridge, cattle egrets. (Don't ask me exactly what all these animals are...I'm not too sure!)

So, some friends in my city went out of station for the week (actually longer for the husband, but only a week for the mom). Anyways, I'm staying with their children for the week. Tune in next week to see if I survived. I wonder how many more times I can type the word 'week' in this short paragraph!

I'm not a big tv watcher. In fact, I don't even have a tv. Even when I did, I think we only got one channel. Lately, the tv I watch has been all in Hindi, but tonight....tonight was different! Tonight I watched American Idol (in English) with some friends. I wanna share with those of you who missed the show some of the highlights!

New Year's and More!

In need of renewing my visa, I left this land for an adventure in God's country with some old and new friends. On the way there, a couple of us stopped in the Capital for some fun New Year's shopping. We did this instead of bunjy jumping off a ridiculous bridge like a lot of our friends. Mom, if my friends jumped off a bridge, no, I would not also jump!

Before shopping, we decided to stop and get some momo's for brunch :) Yum!

Oh my goodness! Never in my life have I seen so many cooked noodles in one place, and apparently neither had Jul!

Other highlights of the trip were: spending time with some pretty awesome brothers and sisters, an uneventful jeep safari, an elephant safari (which included rhinoceri, crocodile, and deer sightings!! And, I got to be the driver!), and eating Mexican food (what would the world be like without Mexican food!!!).

When I grow up, I want to be an elephant driver for a living!

And by the end of the week, I was tired and sick...for the first real time since I came to this far away place. No worries though, I'm getting better and I'm back at home.

Also, as a side note, I take no credit for the photos above. I brought my camera with me, but only took one picture the whole time. So I had to steal some from some friends. Thanks!

Funny

My street dog (yes, she lives on our street, doesn't really belong to anyone, but I call her mine because she will come running from the other end of the street to greet me with her waggin' tail and some lovin') steals food from the neighborhood idols. I think she knows they don't really want to eat what the people give them. She probably pees on them too. The idols, not the people.

My auntie who wears beautiful bright sarees everyday put on her husband's tobaggan....crooked. She looked like a gangster dressed for a fancy banquet.

The remedies that people here suggest when you're sick.
